Heroic Mechanar: Second Time's the Charm
I've just had my second brush with the Mechanar on heroic mode, and it went much, much smoother this time, mostly due to the fact that we skipped Sepethrea entirely. After dying a couple of times and cheesing the elevator 6-7 times on the way to Pathaleon, we finally kicked his ass. He was hard, but not ridiculously hard; in fact I felt the challenge level was just about right for a heroic instance. And the loot! I walked out of there with four Badge of Justice, but also a Defender's Tanzanite, Capacitus' Cloak of Calibration, the Abacus of Violent Odds, and Edge of the Cosmos! No Sun Eater yet, but damn, this was a mighty fine run, even after the 20g spent on repairs.

Heroic Mechanar: First Impressions
As some of you may know, I play World of Warcraft as a Protection warrior these days, and I've been Revered with the Sha'tar for a while now, which means I can run Heroic Tempest Keep dungeons. After collecting enough gear to have about 495 defense and 12,300 health, I decided to go for a whirl in the Mechanar, an instance well-known for being generous with Badges as well as dropping one of the best pre-raid tanking weapons, The Sun Eater.

Charges Filed by Pirate Bay
The Pirate Bay has announced that they are filing criminal charges against corporations who've aided and conspired with highly-critized organization MediaDefender, alleging acts of blatant sabotage against their infrastructure, a highly criminal offense. While I have not read the leaked MediaDefender emails myself as of this point, it certainly strikes me as not being beyond this unscrupulous organization. More information should be available as events unfold.

Denmark: Goodbye, democracy
It is with great dismay that the message reaches me that Denmark has abolished the right to secrecy of correspondence (the preceding link is in Swedish). These laws protect private citizens from having their private correspondence, such as letters or packages, opened or searched by anyone else, including the government, and it's a cornerstone of our liberties. In the United States, this is something covered by the Fourth Amendment. In Sweden, this is covered by our constitution.

Masculine Stereovision
This article about male roles on television was linked to me earlier. It's pretty old by now, but a good read on its own, and highly insightful. It shocked me a bit—not because I was surprised to see my gender being portrayed this way on TV, but because I've been watching these shows for years and never really noticing. Something's bothered me about them on some level, sure, but this is the first time I've really thought about it... and suddenly it seems outrageously clear.

Doing screenshots wrong
So I was checking out Fury, this PvP game currently in closed beta. I don't have an account or anything, but I know people who do. Anyway, after glancing at the screenshots section I realized to my dismay that the Fury people fell into the same trap as so many others: the screenshots they posted are completely useless.

Norwegian men's rights to be debated
Aftenposten reports today that the Norwegian minister of Equality has set up a panel to discuss men's rights. 32 men of varied backgrounds have been gathered, their purpose to raise awareness of men's societal rights and the shortcomings of such rights, and to “spark public discussion”. I say it's about freaking time, and that I hope other nations will soon follow.

Adequate at best
It's always bothered me when people don't bother using proper grammar and spelling when communicating on the Internet. This is no secret; it's a fact I widely publicize and one I am rather proud of. I also take most opportunities I get to correct people when they mess up, and sometimes people are grateful for it. Usually, though, they come up with a particularly annoying and shoddy excuse (although usually spelled rather worse): “You can understand what I'm trying to tell you, so it's fine.”

The Internet killed the video star
I think most of you have heard by now that Elton John says the Internet is “destroying good music", suggesting that perhaps the "Internet should be turned off” for a few years. Blatant techno-ignorance aside, all he really does is come off as an old crank waving a stick at the youngsters on his lawn.

Tributes belated
So, legendary Swedish director Ingmar Bergman is dead. And now, just a few days after his death, the tributes on television, radio, the Internet etc. come pouring in. And while Bergman was certainly worthy of such tributes, it reminded me of something about these tributes that bothers me a little: they all come too late.
